Ainsley needed a new library bag for school and i had planned on sewing her one.

I had the perfect fabric for the horse loving gal.

So we were talking about how it was going go look and and i told her to sit down at the machine so she could sew it, the excitment in her face told me she was excited, that and the squeal lol.

so here she is sewing "all by herself"

Byrons 10th birthday

It was Byron's birthday today and i was rather unorganised and illprepared but it made for a great day anyway.
WE decided on wednesday to send a text to a few friends and see if they wanted to meet us at the park/beach for a bbq.

He ended up with the perfect number of kids getting rather muddy and having a ball with a sausage sizzle cake and lollies, it was so easy we all had a great day.

I hadnt bought his gift until about 8pm last night.

Idid have a thought yesterday afternoonabout turning an old picture frame that had a jigsaw puzzle in it into a teeball memorabilia frame for Byron.

Ginger Bread houses

I had a friend and her 3 kids over for Ginger bread house decorating and construction on monday.
I am pretty sure the kids had fun creating.
3 worked well and 2 I just couldnt get to stick together---I think the roof may have been too heavy.
Byron took his across the road to show the neighbour and very kindly gave it to them.

We are meeting a friend and her kids at the movies tomorrow.
We have on occasion made up ziplock bags with lollies in it for the kids when we go to the movies, so they have there own.
Ainsley said mum can we make up Party bags? No sooner were the words out of her mouth I was in the cupboard getting the cutest bags out for this exact occasion.
I saw them at ikea a few weeks ago and couldnt put them back on the shelf.
So we made up a little stash and decorated the rest of the snowmen cookies.
I didn't put too many lollies in them as I am sure my kids will still ask for a frozen drink and popcorn.

Are they not the best bags? there are 12 in the pack and they are all different santa's from around the world.
they had wrapping paper as well but they had sold out of the individual packs, i did buy a little pack of cards though hahahahah.

Ainsley and i have managed a bit of christmas baking and decorating.
The Reindeers were for her end of year class party at school.
The Puddings were with the leftovers from the reindeers, the chocolate had started to fall off were it had melted a bit but they still look like what they were meant to be,don't they?
The melted Snowmen have been on my list for a while now and when one of the ladies at work bought some in on friday and I showed it to Ainsley she was very impressed.
We made choc chip cookies for the kids last day and they took them in little individual bags with ribbons tied to them, The cookie dough makes approx 80 small sized cookies so I usually make the whole mix and freeze what I don't need.I didn't take photo's.

But as I made the cookies in the morning before school the cookie dough was in the fridge all ready to be baked and turned into snowmen today.
Ainsley did a great job decorating hers,She was very good at the icing pen, I think she may have been better than me.
She did however get a bit carried away with accessories on her last one,trying to add all the lollies she could hahahaha.
The santa hats are oh so easy and got me thinking about cheesecake suffed strawberries so they have been added to the menu for our christmas.

It is Ainsley's birthday next week and we normally do cupcakes to take to school to celebrate with her class mates on the day.

With 6 other children in her class celebrating birthdays within the next 2 weeks I am thinking they may be all cupcaked out so Ainsley and I got our Google on and made our version of lollybags.

I got the idea from seeing a photo of a christmas ornamant similar but could not direct you to a site sorry.

I have used felt for the bottom and glued the money piece on and i used the inside plastic bag from cereal to make the the top.

They didn't take too long to make up and now i wont have to be up until midnight next monday baking and icing cakes.

Ainsley Birthday invitations

Ainsley's Birthday is in a few weeks so yesterday we made the invitations.
I cut everything out and made one for her to copy and then she sat and made them with me, of course Byron had to make one too lol.

I glued a magnet to the back(I used the ones you get in the mail with a calendar on it, just cut it to size.)

This is the final result, i think she did a great job.
I should also add that Ainsley took the photo's.

Teacher Appreciation day

Friday was Teacher appreciation day.
The kids and Icame up with 'Time out bags' for their teachers.
This was a great idea until it got out of hand.
Let me explain..........
Ainsley has 2 teachers and a teachers aide, teachers aide day was at the beginning of the year but we didnt know about it ,plus Ainsley would not have let me leave her out heheheh.
Byron only has one teacher but there is a teachers aide who works in his class and also spends some time in ainsleys so of course she couldn't miss out.
Then of course the sports teacher had to get something and then the music teacher ,oh and you can't forget the librarian.
See out of hand.
But we do love our Teachers so it was all worth it.
I made tote bags 'time out bags' and we filled them with a few bits and pieces for the teachers and the aides to take time out of their day and relax. Crossword books,Pen, choccies, biscuits,coffeeand tea
The sports teacher got a little box with the treats and the Librarian got a bookmark with a few treats.
The librarian got a zippered pouch filled with treats.
All up 5 bags,a foil box a zippered pouch and a book mark with treats
The kids really enjoyed Handing themout, They got as much out of giving them as the teachers did receiving them which i loved.

This Post i have being trying load for a week but have had trouble uploaded so many pics.

It was my nieces birthday on wednesday and she is having a party tomorrow.

Today i finished off her present and am really happy with the outcome.

Her mother asked me to make her some food for her kitchen.

I came up with Remi-licious Icy Treats.

the set contains

Ice cream cones in various flavours both normal and softserve, Icy poles, Zooperdoopers (not sure what the real name is for these), Ice ceam sandwiches and also ice creams in a bowl.
I also put some brown fleece into the cutest little bottle as chocolate Topping and a Teatowel Apron to match. but i did this after i had taken the photos'

For book week Ainsley decided she wanted to be a "horse girl" not a cow girl, not a jillaroo but a horse girl.

I asked her which book she was going to be a character out of and of course "The saddle club" was the book even though she can't actually read these books.

So easy no worries there, we can do a horse girl easy.

At least i thought until she decided it wasnt the rider she wanted to be but the "horse" and a white one too.

hmm Ainlsey your mum may not be that clever.
but guess what i proved myself wrong, i am in fact that clever.
Look at what i created today, not only does it fit the bill but it goes above and beyond as it is in fact a towel.
I am feeling all proud now, lets hope it is ok to wear a towel to school on thursday hahahah.

I will take photo's of it on Ainsley on Thursday, for now the chair is enjoying being a pony heheheheh

After making Eliza's blanket my neice Aisha sent me a spare pillow case and has asked if i could make her a bigger blanket.

I can't make Aisha one without making her brother Brayden one so i took myself to spotlight today to get supplies.

Whilst there are so many colours in the pillowcase i found it hard to find coordinating fabrics that were not just plain,I really like the mottled purple and think that should be enough to set the butterflies off.

I may steal some of the grey and black from Braydens, but i wont know that until i am cutting heheheh
I had some camo in my stash and also the army fabric, i thought these were a good start for Brayden.
I wanted some colour so it wasn't drab and i couldn't resist the stripes, the fabric is a soft soft cotton.
I didn't get a photo of it but i got polar fleece for the back, As they are in the cold region i giot the good stuff, really thick arctic style, mmm warm and toasty.

I have had this idea in mind for a while.
I actually want to do a cushion with this type of inlay, but thought it would look nice in little wallets and bags so here is a little pouch i just created.
After making my dad a little camera bag similar to this one for his birthday i decided to add a strap to the zip pouches i normally make.

My sister rang and asked me if i could make a special birthday blanket for a young friend of their family.

the brief was.

She is turning 15
She loves dancing

Can it be approx single bed size.

Can it please fold into a pillow.
Oh and did i mention it needs to be warm? the live in armidale N.S.W, where it gets to minus temperatures

I had bought some cheap t shirts in the last summer clothing clearance and had the perfect one to suit.
I grabbed some fabrics including the softest coral fleece, some dance inspired silver.
This is the final blanket, i have left the fluff on the front to show just a little bit of what my house was covered in, not to mention what was all over me by the end.

I finally got to making Byron's softball coach her bracelet or cuff, what ever you think suits it better.
I was originally wanted to put it on a yellow ball so as to distinguish it more from a baseball, but as the team colours are white, black and red i am happy.
Now to hope it fits.

This post has been sitting in my drafts for a little bit now but i was having so much trouble with photo's uploading that i gave up, so here we are.
I bought the cutest cot quilt panel a few weeks ago with only a hint of an idea of what i was going to make.
Today inspiration hit and here is the end result.
Pretty pleased with it.
The panel has 9 of these little squares on it so 9 bags it may eventually make heheh.
I love the size it turned out, perfect child size messenger bag.
i am calling them the L'il owl series of bags.

Make up Folder

I found some really cute little note books in my newsagents on the weekend (top model) and fell in love with the make up book.
Basically it was page after page of faces to practise putting make up on with the front cover holding the make up.
The only problem i found was it was $25 and way out of the budget for a random purchase, But with Ainsley's birthday being months away i decided it was a must have hahahah.
this is what i came up with.
I used a plain black ring 2 ring folder that was in the cupboard, a little make up i had in the gift box and i printed off some nice faces, i tried to stick to disney as they have such lovely faces.
i printed these off onto pages from a water colour paint pad we had.
I added some little pockets to the back for some other pens or pencils, i am thinking about adding pages at the back with dolls to draw the clothes onto.

I have been wanting to make a wallet for so so long, every now and then i will google and drool over all photo's of beautiful wallets people have made.
I bought some material to make one but didnt want to cut the fabric until i knew i had it all sussed..
So i made this one for Ainsley as a trial.

To say my kids play nicely together is not necessarily the truth.
Whilst they have the ability to do it they tend to argue over who is making up the game or the rules.

Some days it comes down to Byron not being patient enough with his sister being that little bit younger, other days Ainsley just wont listen.
Both my kids love pretend play, Ainsley' latest favourite game is setting up horse jumps around the house and will run and jump for ages.
Byron lately would rather be outside with the neighbours
Both my kids also have the ability to get "distracted" and one game moves to another pretty quickly.
Whilst playing horses the squeaky wheel of the Ute was doing my head so i sent Byron to get the wd40 without realising this would create a whole new game of "workshops".
So this is what they are up to at the moment

yes they are still in their pj's, it is 8.30am on their first home day of the holidays.

Made Ainsley this coat and can you believe the hardest and most time consuming part was the damn Bow on the back, I just couldnt get that right.
The pattern called for bows on the pockets but i havent dared try those heheheh

I am very happy with this and will be making more from it for sure

I was recently asked if i would donate something to a raffle with all funds going to a local special school.
Of course i jumped at the chance to make something.
I love these monster totes as do all the kids i have given them to so i thought it was a good option.
I am pleased i decided to add the small chalk cloth circle on the back, makes it that little bit more exciting.

I finished the final canvas for Byron's room, it looks good on the wall with all the others.

Byron had a ball that he got from a Perth Heat Game and it was split but he didn't want to throw it away, so it sat in the sewing room for a few weeks with my brain trying to work out how i was going to make what my sewing brain had in mind.

I got it down today and the kids now have new accessories

Byron loves baseball and softball, they are his sport of choice even though he is athletic and would play any sport given the chance.

For his birthday back in january we gave him this doona cover.

yes i could have tried harder to not have creases oops.

I picked it up from ebay, it was a king size but for the price i couldnt resist so i just cut it down to size.

Last week i finally decided to do something to jazz up byron's bedroom wall so using the doona for inspiration this is what i came up with.

I was making bunnies from facecloths for some of Ainsleys friends and for nieces and nephews i will see over easter and got a bit carried away.

I was sitting on the lounge watching t.v and had a pile of facecloths on my lap so started folding to see what else i could come up with.

So far i have bunny, chick, snail,snowman and 2 different girls that don't look so much like they should, but have started the creative thinking as to how to do better next time.

the pink girl looks so much like a cat that i am going to add whiskers when i work out what to use as whiskers lol.

I know the lighting is poor and he has no face but i was excited that he worked hehehe so had to share.

i know it is the owl and the pussy cat but here is my owl and the puppy dog hehehehe

Well it has been a long time between visits here in blog land.
I have done alot in the past months but no crafting..
We moved from W.A to QLD, bought a house and moved in, had Christmas, then Holidays and Ainsley started Prep so here i am with time to blog.
Whilst Ainsley has a large Bedroom she also has Large toys (kitchen, supermarket etc) So we have no where to put her books.
They are living in the large bookshelf in the spare room, which is OK but after she has read one in bed there is no where to to put it,
I have been thinking on and off about a solution to this, while looking at blog i had stumbled upon, I found the solution, and even better it was simple.

So leesa from over at .mi-o-mi came over today and we cooked up a storm.
we made pizza with sauce, salami and cheese tortilla wraps with egg, tomato, lettuce and roast beef, crepes with jam, spaghetti with meatballs, tricolour bow pasta with meatballs, icypoles--ooh choc coated and sugar cookies.
the best part was the tomato sauce doubled as jam and roast beef, the spaghetti doubled as cheese andwe really enjoyed creating this feast.

Apple bliss bars

I made this slice yesterday and it was so good.
i have had it in my recipe folder for a while now and cannot remember where it originally came from but wanted to share it.

Apple Bliss Bar.

crust:

11/2 cups all purpose flour

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup margarine

21/2 cups chopped apples

1/2 cup sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Topping:

3 eggs

2 tablespoons flour

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup nuts(optional)

Mix together flour,sugar and marg until crumbly then press into an ungreased 9X13 inch pan

Sprinkle chopped apples over crust then sugar mix over apples

Bake in moderate oven for 30mins.

mix together all topping ingredients

Remove from oven and pour topping over apples.

Return to oven for 20 Min's more

What i did different.

I used a large tin of pie apples so reduced the sugar in the base and also reduced the amount sprinkled only by a few tablespoons but i think it could be halved or even omitted.

i also changed the baking times due to the apples already being cooked.

i baked the base on it's own for 5-10 Min's then added the apples and sugar then baked it for a further 10mins, so the baking time was only 20 not 30.

then continued baking as per recipe

i didn't add nuts as i want the kids to be able to take it for lunch but i will be making it will nuts as i think the crunch would be nice

i also think adding almond meal to the base would be nice and plan on doing that too lol

adding sultanas to the apples or even the nuts at that stage would also be nice.

i love when a recipe is versatile to suit what you have in your pantry and this seems like it would be just that

My inlaws are going to the Uk to visit family friends in a few days, Whenever these friends visit us here in Australia they have brought over gifts for my kids.

My mother in law yesterday said she would like to get something for their grandson who is 2.

So i told her i had the perfect thing.

Burnt orange and Australian animals seemed to match my idea perfectly.

to go with this tote is a little pencil case out of the lining fabric, crayons, colour in book and an aussie t shirt.

isnt he just the cutest lil monster.

The love of fairies

I bought the panel of Michael Miller Autumn fairies a few months ago but didnt have in mind exactly what i wanted to do with it.
That all changed when i went shopping with Nat and Found Fairies for quillows for her twin girls.
So i made a quilt/duvet/doona cover.
It took a while to draw and plan how it would eventually end up but didnt take too long to actually assemble and sew.
I am pleased with how it looks even though i did manage to do the closure wrong, but hey details details.
I am planning a pillow case tomorrow.

Byrons Baseball Top

Made Byron a Baseball shirt.
Really pleased with the way it turned out.
I made it by using the t shirt pattern i used for the pj's and a raglan top he had , made the pattern by sitting one on the other heheh.
Then i went to add his name with the embroidery machine but it started NOT where i was expecting it to so looks a tad lost almost under his arm pit hahah.
He likes it but wants a number on the back, typical huh?

I grabbed the Hot glue gun today and made Ainsley and the girl neighbours a few hair clips.
love these buttons so cute, also had a few beads that fit just perfect.

last week i was thinking about making lunch wraps, i had given them a go before using PUL but wasnt happy with them, these i used the plastic bag from cereal and sewed it to some fabric i had in my stash.
it is a tad big as i didnt do measurements just sewed next to the glued edge.
works great as a wrap and placemat in one.

i left a sandwich in one for about 5 days to see how it went and it didnt go hard at all, the mould had just started to grow but i would expect that in any bag.i am planning on making a few more a bit smaller,already got some cereal bags waiting and think it will be agreat craft to do with the recycling group at my sons school so i think next term i will have to see the teachers about it.
Also came to the realisation that i had never thought to reuse those bags---don't know why they are great being nice and thick,would be great for rolls.

Easter time--photo heavy

Today we Did some Easter craft.

There was ceramic eggs and their cartons to be painted,
wooden boxes to be painted for gifts,

and the tv cabinet was to be decorated according to the kids, they have even planned on putting their easter baskets there for the bunny to fill.

will get a better photo with full baskets on sunday i think.

we then baked some cookies from the school fundraiser (these became lunch oops).
Then we made chocolate nests with birdseggs in them, i used shredded wheat and melted chocolate and then sat the eggs on top oh so easy, the only thing is i only had dark choc(the good stuff) so they are a tad rich.

Whilst Ainsley doesnt go to kindy on thursday and will not be in the hat parade that Byron is in she will be at the assembly tomorrow to watch and therefore had to make her own hat "just like byrons"

I only had 2 plastic eggs left from byrons and no more rabbit teddy bears.

I did have a glitter hat and rabbit ear headband from last easter.

So we set out to make Ainsleys hat.

Ainsley put herself on cutting the ribbon duty and me on glue duty, as with Byron is was "put glue here" and "put glue there".

oh we also had a stapler which Ainsley enjoyed crunching down on to hlod the ribbon in place.

This is what she has to wear tomorrow.

Easter Hat

Byron has an Easter Hat Parade on thursday so today we went to the shop after school to grab supplies.
We ended up with a packet of plastic eggs and googley eyes.
oh and a bunch of baby carrots
From his room we grabbed a gold glitter hat and Roger Rabbit.
a few odds and ends from the craft box and this is what he made.
Byron did well with the hot glue gun when it was warm but once it got too hot i had to "put glue here" "put glue there".
It looks great i think.
He is very proud

Made the kids some Autumn PJ's this weekend.
we were having a lazy weekend so excuse the children in the photo's someone really does love them lol.
I had planned on buying long sleeve tops but really wanted to finish them and not shop around for matching tops so i opened the fabric cupboard and made my own.
apart from a mishap with Byron's which actually doesn't look too bad i am pleased with how they came out.
The Yoda fabric is really bright and the colours in Ainsley's are amazing--i love how a fabric you like or even love looks 10X's better sewn up.

I have had this page bookmarked for so long and freqeunt the blog fairly regularly, i thought i would never get to making these luggage tags, but my parents are going on their second cruise in a few months so i grabbed the opportunity to make them some.
i love this fabric (yes i know i say that about all the fabric) but i really do.
As with the lunch bag the photo doesnt show how bright and stunning the print is

I just made this lunch bag as a gift.
I have made it so it is adjustable by putting snaps on the side.
my plan for it is so it can be used as an everyday lunch bag without being too big but then so it can be used to carry picnic food for 2 people or just those few extra bits that may be needed.
I have put thermal lining in it so it can keep the food cool and a wipe clean fabric as the inner.

I can't believe that pillow cases are so expensive.
i went to the shop today to get the kids V pillows as every night i go to bed one of them has stolen mine, Target had buy one get the second for $2 so i grabbed 2 of course but was absolutely shocked when i went to get a slip for them and just plain old colours were $12 which what the pillows cost so i refused to buy them.

whilst reading Mel's blog
i found a link to a chocolate freckle slice and it looked so yum i just knew the kids would love it not to mention the chocolate craving mother lol.
so we tried it at the beginning of the week and are heading out to a friends for afternoon tea so we decided this would be great.

I burnt it but of course that means i had to eat that bit, it isnt too bad just a bit too dark and still tastes ok.

That's right we love to do craft but it can be an issue.

where to store the things we are saving for crafts, toilet rolls, scrap paper, egg cartons and anything else we "think" might make good craft.

I was sick of thing lying around and then throwing them away a few weeks later after not using them and being sick of them hanging around.

So i bought a tub, a nice sized tub so Ainsley can carry it and use it on her own.

I then went to the Tupperware cupboard as i bought a container from the op shop with grand plans of using it and only have done once in the year of owning so it has become a craft container--i would rather it be used for craft than sit in the cupboard and fall out with all the other plastic every time i look for a lid.

so this is my effoerts from this afternoon.

I know i will still have the issue of holding onto things but at least there is a home for the important bits and i can bring out new things to add to the divider to keep it all interesting

The under 9 state teeball boys that is.

i wanted to make them something.

they are all getting bag tags for their kits as a few of them have the same bags and when you are rushing from game to game it is nice to know that they can see what is theirs clearly so heres what i came up with.

I am pleased with them so i hope the boys will be too

Ainsleys says "go Byron go" on the front and "Yangebup knights rock my socks" on the back

Febuary is the month for teeball caernivals around here.

one half day one last week a full day one in mandurah the week before and the BIG state carnival in a fortnight.

Feb also as it happens is the hottest month around here so in the vain hope to keep the fantastic coaches team manager and scorer cool i made up a few cooling neck ties.

One of the dads watching decided i was the heat police as i made it my job to keep them cool and had spray bottles on the kids when they were off the feild and had my 4lt water bottle to fill up the empties haha.

I ended up getting some orders for a few more.

i grabbed some T Shirt texta's from Kmart they were $4 so i wasnt expecting too much from but along with $2 Tshirts it was a fun inside craft activity for a hot day, and i am pleased with how they turned out.
i will have to see how they wash.
we originally started to do this the other day but visitors arrived so we packed it up and finished them today.
i had the kids draw the picture they wanted and then i pinned it under the front of the t shirt so they could trace it on.
Byron's is a Robber and Ainsley's is her bird self, at least i think that is what she means as it is her but it is a bird

Happy birthday to my gorgeous big 8 yr old boy.
I think he has had a good day.
it started with presents, a set of Nagori Drums http://http//www.oxfamshop.org.au/viewproduct/81623 from us, this was the compromise for a drum set
a "real" game footy from Ainsley.
a 5 in one activity table(think, table tennis etc) from the grandparents, both sides, which i manged to set up most of before 8am swimming lessons.
Then off to swimming lessons and then hungry jacks for breakfast.
i had planned on taking him to the movies but he decided he wanted to stay at home and play pool with the neighbour.
Dad came home at 12.30 and he got another gift( something dad could give him and be part of the excitement as dad started work at 4) it was a pop up , 3 in one soccer goal, cricket wicket and footy target.
All his gifts were loved.
then we had a quick tidy up and got the play room ready for 8 kids to sleep in, it is matress city down there.
Off to Teeball training via our 1st pick up for the nights party.
home in just enough time to get changed meet our guests and go out to the greyhounds.
All the kids had so much fun--it is great taking kids somewhere they have never been they were all so well behaved.
Home to matress city and the new pj's, which are a hit thank goodness they all fit haha
A bit of playing around and then the start of a movie which lasted about 15 mins till spotlight over shone the movie and they started hiding anywhere they could

we played teams so i had to play as there was an odd number.
i think this is one of the best games i have played, it suits the WHOLE family even the littlies can play to a certain extend in a team.
and the best part it is so cheap target have it for $12.95 and on sale last week for $6.50 hence me having 2 in my gift cupboard and already gifted 2 haha.
Now they are all tucked into bed watching a movie.
i think it is time i went to bed as it will be an early morning.
but i just had to share a photo of the pj's in action.
Ainlsey was already asleep when we got home so she is not in it but all the others are.
i will also get a few more photo's of the gifts and kids tomorrow as i forgot the camera tonight.
Oh and the cake, well after an all you can eat buffet i didnt think they would need cake so we are going to do that in the morning before they go home.
But not one person went back for 2nd dessert as they were itching to get outside and run along side the track.

Byron will be 8 on wed next week and i have said yes to a a sleep over. hmm must have caught me at a weak moment.

The plan is kids will be dropped off at 6pm then we are off to the greyhounds for a buffet dinner.

yes i am going to attempt to take 8 kids out to dinner haha did i say a moment of weakness? perhaps insanity.

I was thinking about the night and what supplies etc i would need.

there is no way they need lolly bags after the dessert table so i opted for pj's that they can wear not only to bed but have on for the morning play and as pick up is 11.30 and i am sure they will all still be in them then haha, i know i would like to be.

I was given some pokemon fabric ages ago and have been using it for the odd cape or bag here and there but i had heaps so pj's they became.

I thought there would be enough for just pokemon blue and black but i was literally 1 leg short hehe.

so i decided that the only girl and the little sister could have special ones, purple satin skulls.

i grabbed some 2 pkts of singlets from kmart for $6 each.

With my mil's embroidery machine on my sewing table i just couldnt resist personalising them.

Using thread, time, a pattern from the box and $3 singlets i think these are going to be the best party bags and cheap too.

i am thinking i may make pj bags too put them in but that will depend on what cake he decides i am capable of haha.

We have our play group christmas party on tuesday and we wanted a Santa who our kids wouldnt recognise.

That was easier said than done.

so we decided that we could get one of the Nanna's to help and tell them that Santa had asked her to help out.

Well we got lucky and Nanny Chrissie has a friend on holidays from America so now we have a Santa and a Santa's helper.

For Nanny Chrissie i got a panel from spotlight that has a ready to cut and sew apron on it.

No fuss just cut and sew.

there is STILL a few things i would have done different, like not trust my overlocker and used pinking shears but here it is.

sleep overs

Byron has a sleep over tonight and has to take a sleeping bag.
he has a couple including a fairly new croc hunter one that i was all set to make a bag for (i bought it on sale as it was missing it's bag)

So in my mind i was making a camo cover this was until he decided he wanted to take the old sleeping bag, this i am sure has a bag but as i was prepared to sew i didnt argue that he had LOOKED properly hehe.

so we now have a tartan sleeping bag cover with a few spots you shouldnt look at due to the math needed to get measurements correct haha

it seemed to rush past me in about june and i can't catch up.well obviously it has been a while and i wont bore yuo with those mundane day to day details.

i will however share some sewing i have recently done.

i have been sewing but not blogging.

skirts are currently the flavour as the weather warms up.

Ainsley will never run out of skirts or dresses i can assure you of that but as they are fun to make i will continue to make them lol.

My princess will only wear skirts that twirl so the latest addition is the circular skirt---fantastic twirl ability.
Ainsley has decided to share the twirling "need" with her twin friends so i made them a skirt each and had a request for another one.

Ainsley's christmas skirt for her daycare party tomorrow is also there, i had a t shirt from last year that will still fit so i just added a little bling to make it go with the skirt a bit better.

August is a full on month for birthdays around here we have 5 from the family and about the same with friends.

so today i went out to lunch with a few friends for 3 of the girls birthdays.

i figured this morning i couldnt go empty handed so i quickly whipped up these.

handy little zippered purses, they were so easy i am planning a few more.

i love the fact that they are versatile and practical but simple.

Yesterday afternoon the boys went to the footy with friends and the friends daughter stayed with Ainsley and I.

it was so nice to have an older girl for Ainsley to play with with no boys to interupt the girly giggles, and to be a girl that ainsley knows well but doesnt get one on one time with.

They had so much fun.

we baked some cookies, played with dolls made a slide with a blow up materess and my fabric stash lol

Milly got me a cookie and this is the one i got.

Byron's teacher this year is great and this week we have parents night so i wanted to give him a appreciation gift.
I had no idea at 1st and the Eb ladies gave me some great idea but it came to me yesterday that he needs a door stop as the door is currently being held open by a brick.
I then found out today that his favourite animal is the tortoise.

this is what i came up with.

he has a face and i will take a daylight pic tomorrow so you can see it cause he is cute hehe.
Byron is working on a card and inside it will say.

summer outfits

I bought this pattern last year but didnt get to making it up. (McCalls M5615)
It is a friends 5th birthday party this week end and she has asked for ballet slippers, so of course she is getting jiffies from us but i couldnt just wrap a pair of boring looking shoes.

so i got the pattern out and now she is getting whole outfit hehe

i am almost finished one for Ainlsey just needs to be hemmedwell this blue top turned out a tad short
so i added 2 more tiers and turned it into a dress
had this been the plan from the beginning i would have made the gathering under the bust cream but hey it twirls and thats all that counts hehe

Gaby made me a coated tote style bag with extras inside .

there is 2 stitches magazines and buttons buttons buttons, which is great because i have just fallen in love with buttons, collecting not sewing them haha.

i didnt use a pattern and as you can see it doesnt look terribly like my practise bag. i kind of went with what the fabric told me hehe.

it was my 1st attempt at a zippered pocket and i am really pleased how it turned out.

the fabric was from the upholstery section at spotlight and wasnt what i went into the store to buy but obviously what i came out with hehe

I have joined the EB girls in a bag swap and it will be my 1st.
I wasnt sure what pattern i wanted to use so after much surfing and awwing and gahhing over all the amazing bags out there i decided on a style but not an actual pattern.
With no pattren fabric and scissors i was off on a trial run,
this is what i have come up with.
It is far from perfect but i know what to fix and what to change so it has done it's job.
I also havent added a closure yet as the ones i have are useless(could be me).

A friend at work wanted a new bag, messenger style and big.
After asking what colours she liked she said
reds, blues, greens,pink,purples.
yay can't go wrong hehe
this was the 1st time i used stabilizer for a bag and i am really pleased with the out come.
there is a litle patch of concern as only one of the fabrics i used had a slight stretch but all is fine.
before i started on this bag i thought i better have a test run with working out a pattern so i made byron one 1st but it didnt have stablizer--regret that but he thinks it looks great anyway so here are the bags i came up with.

i am sure you can work it out but byrons is the skulls hehe.
and foe some reason it keeps turning that photo around grrr

on another note i would like to wish my sister Naomi luck with the baby expo in sydney this week end.

Apron strings

Ainsley needed a new apron so i thought my girly who wont wear anything that doesnt twirl needs a frilly twirly cup cake apron.

So this is what i made for her.

I am thinking mummy needs a frilly twirly apron too hehe.

I Also decided yesterday to unpick the ruffle skirt and make the pink layer smaller--oh the joy that was i should have left well alone.

i also made her a long sleeve t shirt to match.

i think it will be worn every day this week hehe.

I decided that Ainsley needed a long skirt for winter so last night we got onto the net and found a tutorial http://home.earthlink.net/~cornpatchcreations/twirlyskirt.htm

Then into the fabric box to choose the fabric.

I really liked burgandy for the middle layer but of course Ainsley was choosing and she had to have pink.

I liked this tute it was easy to follow but i think the middle layer needs to be a bit thinner so oh my i think i will need to make another one oops hehe.

I will hopefully get some action shots today.

Byron asked the other day if tyke can have a jacket and if he could help sew it.

The answer was yes on both counts.

For Easter i made the kids a couple of baskets, of course i decided to this late saturday afternoon as all good projects are last minute great ideas hehe.

I am really pleased with the way they turned out.

It was my 1st time at using the stabilizer and all went well.

i think next time i will get the 'stiffer' one but for their purpose these are fine.

The kids loved them which of course is all that counts.

I am really in love with Tutu's at the moment So when my mil gave me some tulle i of course googled and then spent the next few hours perusing every tutu site and photo i could to find a good tute but of course i spent so long looking didnt actually get to the sewing haha

There is some absolutely stunning tutu's out there.

Warmth for Miss Milly

A friend of ours just celebrated her birthday and 3 days before hand had a 2 mtre fall through a laser light roof.

so as a happy birthday get well gift i made her a very fluffy warm doona cover.

The top side is cotton and the underside is fleece

Milly chose her colour fleece(bright green) the pillow case is made of the same and loves animals so the tigers and zebra's and giraffes where very apt while trying to make it girly colours hehe

It is very bright but i got a smile of happiness from a girl of very few words so i think she was pretty happy with it.

Icannot believe how long it has been since i blogged.

Ihave done a bit of sewing and will put pics up soon.

This is something i sewed a while ago for ainsley when she was smaller and having swimming lessons.

She also uses it occasionally when she gets out of the shower.

You may be able to see that this has a really big hem as i wanted to be able to let it down to get the wear out of it.

Also a great idea that my grand mother in law shared with me was to sew the belt to the gown that way it doesnt get lost

Well byrons birthday was today and we went to Hungry Jacks for brekky, did some shopping then hung out at home till mum needed a bigger fridge/ freezer to store the cake so down the road to a friends to borrow the freezer to put the cake in while i finished icing it.

We had the party at the park for dinner

nice and easy lollies, chips, sausages on the bbq kids playing at the park or with the cricket set.
followed by the aircraft carrier cake.

byron got a nice array of gifts from his friends.

from us hismajor gift is yet to arrive in the post.

So hopefully tomorrow it will arrive.

Well christmas for another year has been and gone, we opened gifts, ate yummy food opened more gifts had a few swims and ate more food hehe.

All the gifts i made were received well

and the kids of course got heaps of toys and books and games.

Byron would like to thank Grandma and Pa for the aircraft carrier, megan and family for the key board.

Ainsley would like to thank Grandma and Pa for their share in the dolls house and Megan and family for the puppet theatre.

secret santa gift

i have 2 sectret santa gifts to do this year one for work and one for play group.

the one for work is for an eccentric yet classy 20 year old who has just finished his 1st year of uni i was a tad stumped for a while until i met a friend in the local op shop after she had spent some time on http://www.craftster.org/ (please do not go to that site if you don't have time , it is very addictive)

My friend was buying records to make bowls out of.

Bingo the perfect present.

so i made the bowl out of a Burt Bacharach album and added a few bits and pieces of yum.

the second for a lovely lady at play group she is getting a teacup pin cushion and a little tote bag.

pin cushion is done just need to make the bag so best go start as the party is tomorrow

Christmas faux quilts

i am calling these quilts even though there is no quilting at all.

it is 2 pieces of fabric and some batting but don't know what the technical name should be so faux quilts for now hehe.

i have made these for my kids as they get up very early ever morning and like to sit on the lounge under a blanket.

so i couldnt resist the christmas fabric and thought these would be great to grow out of and then become wall hanging eventually for them both.

byron got blue santa's with fantastic nutcrackers (this is my favourite fabric at the moment) on the reverse side.

The wedding

We have just spent a week on the gold coast for kens sister wedding.

Our kids where 2 of 4 kids in the bridal party.

The report back was that all 4 kids behaved well whilst getting ready, then all did their part perfectly followed by enjoying themselves at the reception

after the wedding we spent a week in woolgoolga near coffs harbour with my parents.
the kids enjoyed them selves doing all the touristy things you just have to do.

I will hopefully fix those photo's when i get my copies they are a bit small sorry

My sister called me tonight and asked if i could make her a bag for her Tom Tom (think Navigation system).

She wanted something that she can slip it into and put in her bag so it was protected.

this is what i came up with.

I made it with a strap that snaps open so she can put it around her wrist or strap it to her handbag, so it doesnt fall to the bottom of her bag.--i think i need one for my phone.

oh may have to make one for my camera.

Ok so Byron has been asking since he was 2 for an Earring.

During an outing with friends we found ourselves in the chemist having it done.

So yes he finally has his Earirng (sorry i am corrected) "stud".

He was really good about it, after being asked "are you sure" about 6 times.
He just sat there and had it done without a flitch..... you could tell it hurt at 1st but he wasnt letting on hehe.

He did have to sit down after going a bit pale so sat in the trolley and had a drink whilst we continued shopping.

Dad was a tad shocked understandably i mean it's not every day your 6 year old comes home from shopping and a movie and shows you a freshly made hole in their ear.

i think that byron is happy about the decision and if down the track he decides he doesnt want it any more then he can not wear the 'stud'.

I need to take a better photo but this is the one taken that night in bed.

so he was rather tired and a bit anxious about lying on it.

Whilst enjoying a new found hobby 'Blog surfing' I discovered a very talented lady's blog

Whilst perusing the blog i found a fabric Cubby house that goes on your dining table so i looked from the computer screen to the dining table covered in sheets and towels and then back to the computer screen.

On goes the light bulb and away turn the little cogs in my head, my mind quickly heads to the large bag of fabric i was 'given' to by a friend, thanks Anne.

Most of the fabric is thermal lined curtaining which was sitting patiently waiting for a job to do.

So i went to the scrap bag and got what i needed.

This was done with the help of Byron my eager 6 year old son.
of course at 6 you think that anything is possible so the Cubby needed flowers and fairies and a mail box and butterflies and bees and mushrooms oh and a pond with a duck and upon finding cherry fabric it needed an orchard. this is where i needed to assure him that the Cubby was going over only one table.

So the final product doesn't have all that but most of it.

I have however decided that i will do the other side and will be adding a bird bath instead of a pond, this was the compromise i also need to add a spiders web of course.

awaiting something witty or even exciting to write in this the 1st post of my new blog and i apologise but this is it.
i am creating this blog to share my sewing, kids ,life with my on line friends and acquaintances.
i love a chat so please leave a comment if you like.
i am looking forward to being inspired to sew more, craft more, cook more, in general create more,take more photo's(this i am really slack with) of my kids my day my life.
